Fitted diapers?!?

For those thinking about entering the world of cloth diapering - Beware - figuring out which dipes work for you is exhausting.  I currently have 12 Fuzzibuns and 2 GoodMamas (GM).  My Fuzzibuns are waterproof and my GoodMamas are not.  My Fuzzibuns are pocket diapers and my GoodMamas are fitted diapers.
What's the point of a fitted diaper if it isn't waterproof?!?  Twice I've had my son sitting on my lap in his adorable Goodmama and urine escapes his leg hole and drips down my leg.  This is probably due to a poor fit as the Bobbin' weighs only 10 lbs and GMs are made to fit babies until they grow out of the diaper stage.  But even when a fitted diaper fits properly, the exterior dampens when wet so you need to put a waterproof shell over the diaper or simply dress your baby in a diaper and shirt.
By the way, have I mentioned just how adorable fitted diapers are?  Fitted diapers are typically made by stay-at-home moms' and are constructed of beautiful fabrics that are snuggly soft and adorable to look at.  My two GMs have boyish prints - one called Galactic Fantastic with spaceships on it and the other with a Dr. Seuss print from One Fish, Two Fish.  So why would anyone ever put a shell over these cute little dipes?!  My sister-in-law has advised me that fitted diapers are to be worn with little leg warmers and tee shirts.  When the tee shirt, fitted dipe, and leg warmers are put together they make a darling ensemble.  Too cute!  So in summary, you wear fitted diapers to enjoy how sweet your little babe looks in them AND to help your baby learn when they've gone to the bathroom -- this is especially helpful down the road when you begin potty training!

Who's To Blame

My sister-in-law.  Blame her.  Stacey is a mother of two little girls and has been cloth diapering for several years now.  When she first shared that she used cloth diapers, I was appalled.  The thought of throwing pee-soaked and skid-marked diapers into the same washer and dryer I use to clean my hand towels and intimates made me squirm.  But Stacey persevered. She gifted me 12 Fuzzibun cloth diapers, a diaper bag, and Rockin' Green diaper detergent at my baby shower.  I've got to hand it to Stacey - it takes serious cajones to walk into a roomful of women and openly preach about the benefits of cloth diapering.  A few of my friends snickered as Stacey explained how you clean poop out of dirty diapers, and I caught others rolling their eyes as we discussed how environmentally friendly CD-ing (cloth diapering) is.  Out of a roomful of 25 women, only one other besides myself was intrigued by the prospect of padding our baby's in snuggly diaper fluff.  But I left my shower excited to have one day's worth of cloth diapers to try out when the little guy arrived.

Thanks, Stacey!

Mommy Fluff and Me

Welcome to Mommy Fluff!  A blog intended to discuss the perks and challenges of motherhood and my new, ridiculous obsession with cloth diapers and other funky, fun baby stuff!  Self-admittedly, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to all things baby -- my little Bobbin was born on April 7th.  He's my first, and I'm completely, head-over-heels in love with him.

Why cloth diapers?  They're soft, snuggly, and fluffy...and the fabric patterns are adorable!  But beyond being precious, these dipes are environmentally-friendly and cost-effective.  To boot, there's a huge underground community of cloth diappering mamas who are passionate about their diapers, and spend hours every day searching the web for diaper deals, swapping collectible diapers (yes! there are collectible diapers out there!), and who rely on one another for support and humor as they journey together through the early diapering years of their babies' lives.

Join me, a complete rookie, as I embark down this path of mothering my baby boy and explore the realm of cloth diapers!  I promise it won't be boring and I'll share everything I learn as I stumble forward into this unknown, exciting world.
